Why Women Should Lift Weights

Women tell me all the time that they’d like to get into doing some strength training and lifting weights, but they don’t know where to start. That’s why I wrote my post How to Get Started Lifting Weights in 3 Steps.

For every woman who talks to me and says that she wants to lift weights and needs help getting started, there are roughly a million women who tell me they don’t want to lift weights because:

  • She doesn’t want to get “bulky”
  • Running burns more calories
  • It’s scary or dangerous
  • She tried before and gained weight
  • Or any other of a number of myths

But these are largely myths, and don’t consider a bunch of benefits of resistance training. So many people don’t know about the awesome benefits of lifting weights!

Anyway, I figured maybe someday I’d have to post some info about why women of all ages should do resistance training as part of their exercise routines, but someone else did it for me! And with something called a gifographic. For as much as I love a nicely designed illustration and cute icons of chicks lifting weights, I was still surprised at how cool this is.
