My Rollercoaster Month of April

Dear April, WHYYYYY!? April has been so bananas. That’s why I dropped off the face of the earth. I have so much to blog about, but I won’t really have time to catch up until later this week. The good news is that I’ve gotten some good miles in, had some good runs, and had a blast on vacation with my baby boy. The bad news is that I’ve had some terrible runs, and been a little overwhelmed with my commitments. Er, life. But as long as I make it to Thursday, I’m GOLDEN!

traverse city trail running festivalI’ll do a full write up on Gazelle Girl, but I’m really sad to say I had a terrible race that day. I don’t know what happened. Yes, it was way warmer than I expected, but I dressed very light, fueled well, trained, and did everything right. It just wasn’t my day. My body didn’t cooperate, I felt sick, and I ended up not being able to finish with my pace group. I still feel bad about it, but it gave me a chance to run/walk with some awesome ladies who needed my encouragement, and I needed their kind words, too! It happened. I need to move on, but it’s still fresh in my mind. And it’s just a bummer because I’m not used to that feeling of failure. I need to learn from it instead of feeling bad, though.

Then I did the Run Michigan Cheap Howard City Half and it went great! It was very woodsy, and even though it was a little harder than expected because the path was dirt, it was a great run. The weather was still pretty cool, but I dressed light (because I sweat like sweaty lady no matter how cool it is), and didn’t go too fast, but still pushed myself to be consistent and rally at the end for a great last mile. I totally nailed it. I mentally needed to redeem myself, and this did it.

Then there was the River Bank training run we just did with Grand Rapids Running Club on Saturday. Dang! That was a LONG one! Oh yeah, because it’s 25k and I have to do it again in 2 weeks. Heh. But thanks to my awesome running partners, I kept up a better pace than expected toward the end and didn’t feel too terrible. I was tired and lagging, but they kept me going so I made it. The nice thing about River Bank is that I’m always slow on race day, and just happy to be a part of something so epic. It will be a good race no matter what.

Plus, vacation went great. It was tiring, but my son was so amazing, traveled well, and we had a ton of fun going on adventures.

More on all of this soon. Now, I need to prepare for my bananas week!
